Volkswagen Truck & Bus celebrates 45 years of success

Today, February 2nd, 2026, marks 45 years since Volkswagen Truck & Bus first created its trade name and embarked on a successful journey. The company is recognized as one of the world’s largest commercial vehicle brands and has invested more than R$7.5 billion in consolidating its global market presence and developing more than 100 different models that have consistently transformed the marketplace since it first started operations in 1981.

Present in more than 30 countries, VWTB has been highlighted with its tailormade business strategies and has always prioritized its maxim: “less you don’t want, more you don’t need”, - a  philosophy that has allowed the company to conquer the market. This concept allowed for VWTB’s emergence within the industry and led to it becoming a leader in truck sales in Brazil - the main final destination for its vehicles - for 22 years.

Volkswagen Truck & Bus is also historically the 2nd largest assembler of buses in the country after having reached this market position with the launch of its first passenger transport chassis and maintaining it ever since. In the international markets in which it operates, VWTB is an industry reference for customers seeking quality products, excellent operating costs, and outstanding after-sales service.

Another brand highlight is Volkswagen Truck & Bus’s dealer network. There are more than 350 VWTB service centers located on three different continents, 150 of which are concentrated in Brazil to guarantee comprehensive support and a high level of availability for vehicles in operation. For this reason, the company offers a complete ecosystem with more than 10 different services customized for each customer and each of the approximately 50 trucks and buses in Volkswagen's product portfolio.

These products are divided into the Delivery, Constellation, and Meteor families for cargo transport and the Volksbus for passenger transport. The company is also making important advances in electrification with the e-Delivery and e-Volksbus models. As the manufacturer of the largest VW vehicles in the world, VWTB has the capacity to produce up to 100,000 units per year. Throughout its history, the company has put more than 1,250,000 vehicles into circulation, 196,000 of which are on the road worldwide.

First vehicle model manufactured by VWTB for over 20 years, the Worker accounts for 433,000 units of this total volume, followed by the Constellation family at around 373,000 units. The Delivery has also produced impressive results with a total demand of 220,000 vehicles. The Meteor, the latest addition to VWTB’s portfolio, already has a total of 20,000 trucks in circulation, while the MAN has completed 10,000 units. The Volksbus family in turn accounts for 194,000 buses produced.

Who is behind these successful figures are approximately 5,500 employees divided between VWTB’s factories and operations in Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina. The company has also installed an assembly line in South Africa and the Philippines. This team is guided by a key VWTB strategy known as the Future Program, which guides the company’s initiatives according to the highest standards for respect for the environment, social responsibility and governance to continue transforming the transportation industry.
